Stephenetta (isis) Harmon is a Black beauty culturalist, digital media strategist, editor, curator, and communications consultant. She has 20+ years of editorial and digital media experience, covering and creating stories of Black interest. Her passion is rooted in stories that celebrate the power, impact, and business of Black beauty and entrepreneurship. She also helps to build the digital platforms on which they thrive.
The New Jersey native began her career as a writer in Minneapolis, MN where she cut her teeth covering political takeovers and community profiles. She went on to serve in various communications and public relations roles in government and nonprofit sectors focused on Black communities across the country. Her previous roles include serving as editor-in-chief for Minnesota’s oldest Black newspaper, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder (MSR), and serving as both a senior web producer and a contributing writer for UPTOWN, VIBE, and VIBE Vixen publications in New York.
Stephenetta also served as digital media director and sole digital editor for Hype Hair for six years, where she helped to increase the brand’s reach and presence within the beauty space, as well as expanded the publication’s coverage on the politics and business of Black hair and beauty.
This led Stephenetta to develop Sadiaa Black Beauty Guide, the premier directory and digital platform to amplify the voices of and provide resources to Black-owned hair and beauty brands. She also hosts a “Business Of Black Beauty” series and developed a companion news release site, BlackBeautyWire.com, to share and distribute industry news from Black-owned beauty brands.
In addition to operating Sadiaa, Stephenetta serves as head of Tech Ops for Mirror Digital and provides digital media consulting and development services to small businesses and nonprofits through her development firm, Kladé Group. She also curates MEZAI, an online fashion and accessories boutique.
She holds a BA in English & Communications from Hamline University and currently resides in Dallas, TX.
