Nikiya Mathis is a multi-hyphenate actress and Broadway wig designer.
As an actor, she recurs as N’kiyah Franklin, music manager of the group "Butta", in POWER BOOK 3 RAISING KANAN on STARZ.
After experiencing hair horror stories in theater, TV and film, Nikiya created ActTRESSES Hair by Nikiya aka Our Black Tresses, a Broadway wig design and consulting company that services actors and educates the industry regarding hair support for actors with textured hair.
Nikiya is the first wig designer to ever receive a special Tony Award– for her design of the Broadway play, “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding". She is an Obie Award Winner, Drama Desk Winner, Black Women on Broadway award winner, a Henry Hewes award winner.
Nikiya’s recent credits include: the critically acclaimed reimagining of CATS THE JELLICLE BALL, coming to Broadway; PURPOSE directed by Phylicia Rashad, currently on Broadway ; Liberation at Roundabout Theatre Company, Lights Out by Oscar nominated actor/playwright Colman Domingo and Goddess the Musical by Tony nominee Jocelyn Bioh, both opening this May.
This season, Nikiya has designed wigs for Danai Gurira in an upcoming film and Phylicia Rashad on this season of the Gilded Age.
Nikiya is launching a wig line to help actresses curate their "Wig Wardrobe" for auditions, red carpet and TV film roles.
